Hi, I'm Maarit - an International theatre-maker, actress, improviser and clown from Helsinki, Finland.
I'm a founding member of Tall Women Theatre Company, NYC improvisation teams poHa – a performance art improvisation collective from the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, The Art House Improv Movement (UCB) and the indie team the idiots.
I received my Master’s Degree in acting from East 15 Acting School in London, UK in 2011. After graduating I started working on discovering my voice through one of my biggest loves, improvised theatre. I have been performing improv for many years in various teams in Berlin, Helsinki and New York.
My first staged short play Alive Tonight - a dark comedy about my obsession with Rabies, was voted into the Network Theatre Company’s short play festival finals in October 2017 in NYC and I have been writing and creating my own work ever since.
I performed my first solo show, I Promise To Die Happy, a mixture of clown, puppet theatre and dark comedy, in November 2019 in Turku Finland.
I thrive from working together with other people, taking risks and going towards fear. What inspires me is finding presence in the moment on the stage and truthful behavior.
As an artist I'm compelled with the endless discovery of human behavior and the things we are capable of as a species.
